What should I do with this paint situation?

As you can see my floor's paint is coming up in a lot of areas, but still solidly down in others (those spots are not seen, under the front of the cars). Some bits are flaky and come up with moderate scraping effort and others are very difficult to scrape. Paint remover has had poor results. Other areas of the concrete are pitted.

I am going to epoxy the floor. I've been told there's a product similar to leveling compound with which I can cover the floor as is - w.out the backbreaking scraping on my hands and knees , which is all that gets me anywhere - and then epoxy over that. Anyone have any insight into that?

Or how do you suggest I prep this floor for Rustoleum Epoxy? Knowing prep is everything w.these endeavors I suspect I just need to get it up.

The best thing is to ask Rustoleum if that is the product you are settled on using. They have many different formulations and I'd give you a different answer depending on which formulation you were going to use.... like water verses solvent based for starters.

Also, do you know what is down there now?

If you've got peeling paint it's got to come off. My parents garage was like that for years. If one spot is peeling more of it will peel later. You could probably try pressure washing to remove it but I'd just settle on grinding. It's a PITA but your going to get a surface you know epoxy will stick to. If you've already played with paint remover and it didn't work you've introduced yet another contaminate to the surface that might affect future adhesion. I decided to grind because I didn't want to risk coating failure after spending a ton of money and time doing it.

The product is the solvent two part Epoxy Pro Garage Fl Coating.

No idea what's down now

I tried pressure washing with a 3Kpsi ******* and that didn't cut it.

It will grind off easily. I have seen that and a job coming up that has paint peeling and have sampled it with my grinder and it took it right off andleft the profile needed for epoxy.....

Thanks for the replies fellas. I'll need to rent a grinder - when I go to the rental joint what kind of grinder (floor?) am I taking and what kind of grinding pad do I need (and where to get)? I could ask at the rental place but I far more trust this board's collective wisdom!
