What should I do with this Snap On wrench??

I have half a drawer full of those odd-ball wrenches I've picked up at estate sales and garage sales. I'm always amazed when I see a top line tool bent, cut, ground down, welded or otherwise modified.

I wish I had the rest of the set. My grandpa had a soft heart in his old age and he allowed friends and neighbors to borrow tools from his shop. Big mistake. I wish I knew half of the tools that walked out of there never to return... Im just proud of the ones that were still there when I inherited it

I did a similar thing to a Snap-on wrench a while ago. I needed one with a specific bend in it, so i made one.

It's only a wrench, nothing to get upset over. There are plenty of straight wrenches left in the world.

It was your grandfathers wrench that he modified for a specific purpose, hang it on the wall and you will think of him every time you look at it...Also one day you may need a bent wrench...

I have the same thing... I have a batch of these oddballs in my swelling toolbox as well-you just never know.. same goes for old ratchets-chop 'em up and you will always have the right tool for the job at some point.. Who cares what their collectible value is-as long as it works for your job at hand..

So--it is recommended that you leave it as is.. If you actually use the tools instead of crying over it--you'll maybe one day find a use for that tool in it's configuration.. If you bend it back and someday need a 90degree bent wrench-you'll kick yourself for undoing that purpose-built tool. Your grand-pappy didn't care about the name as much as he did about getting a job done.. I'm guessing it served it's purpose.. Leave it alone dude..

Going through my grandpa's tool after he passed, I found a lot of wrenches that were bent in various angles. Found a couple of wrenches where the box end broke and was welded back up to get through the repair at the time.

I imagine at the time they were bent, they were up against the wall to figure out how to reach bolt and nuts without taking 2 or 3 other things out of the way. I dont imagine that they put any thought into it and just did what they needed to do at the time.

Its become a sentimental thing now.
Its become a conversation peice.
Hang it up and enjoy the memories.
