What size gas line?

Hello, I need a little help here. I want to run an underground low pressure propane line from the 120 gallon propane tank (next to the garage)over about 40' to where I will put my weber barbeque. I looked at the propane tank and it has a first and second stage regulator already installed on the tank. I will T into the existing 3/8" copper line coming out of the second stage regulator before going underground. Since it is regulated low pressure (2.75kpascals or 11 inches of water) what size line will I require? I was thinking of using 1/2" Mueller plastic coated copper coil, is that big enough for this application?

It may not be large enough for that water column. Typical systems for Natural Gas operate at 7 inches 1/4 PSI. You could use that size line if you connected before the regulator and then had a down stream regulator before the BBQ. I am not sure what the setup looks like and if that is possible in your case. At 40' you may encounter some burner issues. What is the BTU rating on the BBQ?

According to the code book for propane you should be okay. It should equate out to a max MBH of 110.

very simple. Tie in on the high pressure side. Before the second stage regulator. Run 1/2 coated copper or 1/2 cts plastic tubing if you can get it. At the grill convert the line to a high pressure QCC fitting and leave the regulator on the grill. Simple way to do it and you can change grills easly.
You could also put a second stage regular at the grill and toss the grill regulator. That would be my 2d choice.

40' to run a single BBQ? 1/2" would be fine although I'd be tempted to do 3/4 to leave room for future possibilities.

Thank you all for the input. I think I will tie in before the second stage regulator and try it that way and utilize the second stage reg. on the grill. It is a three burner BBQ.
