I've got a couple at work as a diesel mechanic. The wilton BASH sledge hammers are absolutely awesome. I don't know off the top of my head what the weights and sizes are so I cannot contribute to that discussion.

I got the BASH ones for work as a diesel mechanic. I will say that they are worth the money.
I got a 8 and 2.5lb sledge both with 16 in handles. I called the 8lb one 'Thor' cause it didn't take to many swings with that thing to get something moving. For most of the jobs I did it didn't take much more than that to make something happen.
I also got a 16oz ball peen.
I would highly suggest getting them.

I ended up ordering two Nupla sledgehammers. I took everyone's advice and went with smaller ones to start (8 and 10 pound), I know I can always get bigger ones latter. I hope they will be here next week. I decided to go with the Nupla, because they are completely made in the USA, they have "unbreakable" handles and I like the "ribbed for her pleasure" handles.

I also bought some smaller hammers that are "soft" but not non sparking. I will be interested to see how they perform. I will update with photos when I get the hammers.

As a heavy equipment mechanic, I don't really care for over a 10lb sledge. We also use Slide Sledges a lot here at work instead of a normal sledge- I like that you don't have to have the clearance to swing that a normal sledge takes.

I'm not a jacked up weightlifter so I don't do so hot swinging anything very heavy, I like having control over what I'm using.

I've got a Wilton drilling hammer that I like a lot, it's got great balance and durability, I will be replacing my hammers with Wiltons as time goes on.

It took a while, but my hammers came in the other day. They are very nice for sure. I am now thinking that I would like a 6 pound one as well. I am glad you guys talked me out of the 20 pounder, that would have been used very little, where these will get used all the time. I will try and post a couple of pics of the sledges along with my family of bigger hammers.

All my Wilton's are pretty BASH. I have the 8 lbs. short handle, great general purpose hammer. Big boy is a 14 pounder, both at home. At work using the shop long handle 8 lbs to move piviot pins, I was ******* and mouning I wished I had my real hammer. My leadman laughed, 14 lbs, hell go get a 20 lbs out of the stock room. Those pins moved then. So far the 14 lbs has done its job at home, but maybe a 20 lbs BASH is in the future.

BCDan, do you know where the Bash hammers are made? I ended up going with some of the Nupla ones. They were priced right through Zoro and I got them during a flash sale so it was even better. They are 100% made in the USA. As a side note, Nupla makes parts for broadcast towers and I work on towers, so I thought it was fitting.

I think they are made in South Africa. Either way they are excellent hammers.

I am pretty hard on hammers especially sledges/drilling hammers. I just bought a 10lb one from lowes. I think the sledge is made in mexico. It has a 36in handle which is way to long to be useful to me. So I cut the handle down to about 11 or 12'' or so. Then i wrapped the handle in para cord to give it a better grip.

Not the best quality but cant expect a whole lot for 30 bucks. It will work fine for me.

When I looked at the cost difference between the Nupla ones and the BASH versions, I could not see any advantage. My 10 pound was $60 and the 8 pound was $55 after discounts. I think it was only a 20% off flash sale, so they could have been cheaper. Shipping was free, but took some time, and they are very nice for sure.

i have a 10 and 12 pound i use at work.. i honestly cant see using anything bigger than that unless your competeing in one of those strong man comps.. granted, mine get used for breaking small patches of sidewalk or as the occasional " persuader ", but still a 12lb sledge is pretty hard to get a full swing with. if you just doing small taps than i can see something larger being beneficial.

I use a 20lb at work a lot. But, for personal use I doubt I would get one or the average person would need one.

All my Wilton's are Pre BASH so if the plant moved when the BASH came out I don't know. My sledges and ball peins are all South Africa made. Even thou I'm a COO person, I'm OK with SA. I hate wooden handles and threw the vendors I deal with, Wilton was the easiest answer. I have a few nupla hammers in different configuration and I like those too. If side by side, price aside, I'd go with which one felt better.

I had never actually held any bash sledge hammers, but I had seen the splitting mauls and they did feel pretty good. Unless the Nuplas have issues, I will probably stick with them, they have a great selection and the prices seem decent.

I have an 8lb at home. I've broken a couple of wood handles splitting wood and breaking concrete on various projects.

All the sledges on the trucks at the FD are 8 pounders also.

Do you guys use any of the dead blow sledges? Trusty cook seems to target them as a fire fighter's tool.

I have a 12 lbs or so Mac dead blow so basically a Stanley compocast. A lot of the other techs laughed when I bought it says where are ever going to use it. Well if you want to beat something and not wreck what you are beating, its damn handy.

My buddy has a 16" sledge with a 16 pound head. That thing will move some steel.
