What solder gun do you feel is a good unit? I have a Weller however it just doesn't heat up very fast and has a lot of trouble keeping hot when I need it? It has a two stage heating trigger.

tightening the tip nuts before each use fixes the slow heating on mine. Have you tried that?

The tip nuts will work themselves loose due to heating/cooling, and you lose that heat transfer.

I use a 30+ yr old Weller and it will become hot enough to melt solder in a matter of seconds if the tip is tight.

Not another snap on versus somebody else, :lol_hitti Actually I have an old weller gun and a weller base station model, they both work fine. I wouldn't hesitate to get another weller at all.

Yes, I have tightened the nuts and cleaned the tip different times, I think it's time to go buy another gun Thanks A-lot guys.. That P2KC-Pr looks as if it would be a good choice.

Both of mine are Weller. A gun for the bigger stuff, and an iron for the smaller stuff. It came with an exacto tip that I really want to use, just haven't found the time.

The new style weller guns use set screws instead of the nuts like the older ones, and they just don't seem to stay tight. I think the new ones are only good for replacement housings for the older style guns.

I've used Weller guns & irons over the years. Just started using a Weller WPS18MP PRO Iron ($28 Amazon). Heats up very quickly, light on the tip, so far a thumbs up. I use it mostly for building wiring harnesses for motos and autos.

Also bought a Stahl soldering station for more delicate work ($15 Amazon). Excellent, especially for the price!
