What sort of toggle switch am I replacing here?

Basic question I hope but just want to make sure I get it right. I'm rebuilding a bench grinder and the toggle switch on it is getting tossed, as it's very finicky.

However I'm not quite sure about a replacement-- it appears to be four terminals, but I'm having trouble finding that type online? Very possible I'm using the wrong terms when searching.

It's an on/off configuration, so SPST I believe. If anyone recognizes this switch type and can recommend a replacement I'd be grateful. In case you're wondering, in attachment #3 those are the line wires, while in attachment #4 one wire goes into the stator winding and the other to a run capacitor just outside the picture frame.

I think you want to look for a double pole single throw DPST

Double Pole Single Throw (DPST). Make sure whatever switch you get is motor rated. It will generally say something like "120v 10a 1/2 HP" or something like that on it. If it doesn't have HP rating, it's likely not suitable for use with motors.

That is a dpst switch. Your worry is getting one rated for motor duty, big inrush current. Do you have any current specs on the switch or the grinder?

If you find a DPDT switch that has the correct electrical specs then get it. It will have an extra set of terminal that you will not use but it will function properly.

looks like a typical 120v setup. I'm seeing three old wires -- thinking the third would be to a light? If that's the case the white leg combines inside the tool.

You would use a conventional sp switch. white is not switched in a typical 120v tool.

There is nothing wrong with switching the neutral as long as they are switched with the hot conductor.

I don't see any "specs" in #2 photo....it just reads the patten number and such. It's just a DPST switch.

The specs are molded into the black plastic, 6A 250v.

This one is rated 10A@240V, 20A @120V
Its heavier duty than the one you're using, thus should last longer.
