What tape to use?

What brand type tape is recommended for taping epoxy? I need to tape off where the garage door bottom touches the concrete. Do I leave the same piece down when applying the primer, then the epoxy then clear coat or new piece every time?

Thanks,

Eric

Blue painters tape in 2" width is what we use...but any masking tape should be fine. We bull-nose the front lip of the garage and then about 1-2" just outside the door seal. But if your using epoxy I would not recommend going outside the door area...the UV will beat the snot out of the epoxy and turn it yellow and other funky colors.

We don't use epoxy...thus not an issue in our applications.

Oh and taping the front legs of the neighbors cat together...not a good idea. Don't ask me how I know... :)

Best of luck with your garage!

I like Duct Tape... I would pull tape and re-tape inbetween coats. It really depends on how thick the coating is. Thinner coatings don't really need the tape pulled as often...

Hmm, who deleted my post about taping the cat legs before tossing them in the wood chipper??

Duct tape is what I'd use too.

Thanks you guys, you rock. Taping the neighbors cats legs together would be funny since I am a dog lover.

I like Duct Tape...

Awful idea. Duct tape leaves residue and in some instances could pull paint off walls and moldings, not to mention a stained garage door, uuuf. Been there done that.

Like JD said, blue painters tape or if you want to minimize bleeding, for decorative work, use the green frog tape.

It doesn't leave residue if you pull it off in a few days/week. Didn't think about the paint though. Have had that happen with masking tape before too.

Whenever I seal driveways I always use duct tape to mask off anything I don't want sealer on. Figured the same would work for the epoxy.
