What is the correct term for putting a crush miter (for lack of a better word) on the end of a round tube so looking at it from the end it has a half round or C shape? I want to capture a round tube between 2 of these c shapes facing each other. I can't find the term for this anywhere and it's pissin me off :mad:thanks

That's possible but I looked at swaging earlier as that was my first thought but I couldn't find anything that applied. thanks

The process is called tube end forming, but I don't recall the specific name of the type you described. Swaging IIRC is when you reduce the whole circumference at the end of a pipe. Or it might be a generic term for any type of end forming or ram forming or bulldozing.

I always heard it called a siamese joint; the old man had a '62 buick, exhaust came out duals from the engine, one side crossed over just behind the ****** and the two were D shaped there, went into a flange then into a single, about 3" round, back to the rear axle, hopped over that into a about a 10 gallon muffler, then out of that and exited on the drivers side rear bumper... I must had near 100 lengths of pipe with both ended flattened as you describe for bracing on floor stilts at a remote work site.

You know to this day I still don't know a technical name for the ends...

I just checked the pic and I'm totally wrong. I thought he was joining to pieces of tube together which is coping. I guess I had trouble visualizing the OP description.

You got it! :beer:End formed is the process and Half Round is the profile! After an exhaustive search of the Interweb I can finally confirm that is the correct term. I may have found the answer sooner but oddly enough in my search of metal bending videos I'm clicking on the next arrow and somehow a Fart Pranks video pops up. Well the next thing I know it's midnight and I've been watching fart prank videos for hours. ADHD medicine ain't all it's cracked up to be :headscrat....

I'm glad you found what you were looking for, but to me, this does not sound like a "half round" shape.

The bottom profile in your picture is the correct profile and it is called a half round. So you are half right. LoL

lol! Thats cool.

Doesn't seem like a very good name for that type of end form.

But, if you need one, there's two on a push mower handle bar! lol!

That's kinda my plan. I have one of those rubber paddle wheel attachments for my weedeater that works great for sort of brooming the gravel out of my yard that the snow plow so generously donates to me every winter. But that truth is that thing is a bonafide man killer and wears my old *** out in short order(I'm 61). So my plan is to make a frame for a set of dolly wheels and if every thing goes good I might even invent the first gas powered walker while I'm on a roll here. Anyways I've got an old lawn sweeper that is going to be the transplant donor and the outer frame pieces are sort of wishbone shaped and connect to the hitch. The problem is those tubes are round and I need to end form them to Half round to capture the round shaft and enable me to clamp my dolly to the gas powered torture device but at this time I don't what the damn term is called. So I thought hey I'll jump on the interweb quick like, look at a few videos for some ideas and be an expert in just a few minutes. Wrong!! I start Googling every thingamabob and whatchamacallit with no luck and I'm gettin more pissed off every minute an just when I'm about to go adopt a cat so I got somebody to strangle it hits me. :Help:Surely somebody on The Garage Journal knows what I'm talking about. thanks you guys:beer:
