It looks like they nest very nicely for storage...can they be reversed to make a long thin funnel? Very cool, whatever it is!

Roger, I meant no disrespect with my post, whatever it is it is very cool. I love finding things like this that someone made to solve a problem.
It kind of reminds me of the collapsible drinking cups that the cool kids in my scout trip had in their camping equipment back in the 60’s. Please let us know if you find out.

You ain't the only one! I spent a good 15 minutes googling various combinations of collapsible and telescoping tin funnels. It smacks of military to me. WWI. Maybe even earlier. Hiking? Early automotive?

Btw, some of us old boy scouts still have them! :pimpflash

If the segments had numbers or letters on them, they could be some sort of gauging tool. Those kinds of things have been used in lots of industries for years.

Say a diameter-checker in a marble factory, or if used the other way around, a wet-sand-slump-checker in a sandcastle factory. But with no grading indicators on the different pieces it makes one think they were intended to be used at one time.

I was thinking "cutting sprue off the casting" when I first read Ty's post, didn't get to click through to see it's for sand cutting for a while. Nice jump.
