What to do now?

My shop is finally up but I've notice my concrete isnt smooth like I thought it would be. Its a little rough with some drag marks where we were getting the water off of it when we were forming it.

My goal was not a pure smooth floor due to slipping but not a real rough floor. The shop will be mostly a fab/mechanic shop.

I am thinking about a concrete floor grinder. Never used one before.

I figured grinding the floor to the point that I am satisfied with then seal the floor.

Someone mentioned Ghostshield since it beads up oil and other spills. So i may go with that. Is there anything else I need to use as well?

Ghostshield 8505 and the Ghostshield 4500 densifier. Look at acid stain if you want some color.

How many gallons of each to use on 900 sq ft? Which to apply first?

Ghostshield is a great choice and we sell a lot of it for the purpose of oil resistance and stain resistance on garage floors. It is important to understand that it does nothing for the texture.

You could grind and do a couple coats of clear Polyurea as well -- with some anti wear anti skid. Keep in mind that a coating will not put up with weld slag.

Silax-Seal!

What is that? Will it handle weld slag?

There are a lot of silane / siloxane sealers on the market and Legacy has some great ones. We have our own brand of product as well.

Will they 'handle' weld slag. They have no impact on each other really. There should not be any product on the surface to be damaged.

My concern here is your expectations regarding texture. None of the sealers will have any impact on that what-so-ever.

Sasquatch, Silax-Seal and GhostShield are both penetrating sealers. Penetrating sealers work by effectively penetrating the surface of the concrete and sealing right at the sub surface. They are non-film forming, unlike a topical sealer or coating (epoxy) that leaves a topical layer over the surface. Since they do not form a film at the surface, if you grind the concrete to your liking before application, it will retain the same feel and grip as it did before the sealers were applied.

You cannot damage penetrating sealers since they reside at the sub surface. You would have to physically remove the upper most layer in order to do so. That is why you must grind concrete to apply a topical coating if a sealer has been applied. It cannot be removed any other way.

Penetrating sealers do a good job of protecting the concrete, but they are still somewhat susceptible to staining from petroleum products, though some are better than others. The reason for this is that they don't form a film on the surface and oils can still affect the very upper most layer if it is allowed to sit. If oil spills are attended to fairly quickly, then they do a pretty good job at keeping the concrete looking nice.

Agreed 99% just one clarification. The 8505 is specifically designed to repel and resist oils. We sell a lot of Silane and Siloxane sealers, which are also awesome, but when oil resistance, in specific is at issue, 8505 is the way to go.

All I can say about the Ghost shield products is they went on easy, worked the way they were discribed in the literature. Oil, water beads up like water on hard wax. Nothing seems to stick, wipes right up. It's like the the spilled material doesn't want to be on the floor either. Floor is not slippery, I'm impressed with it.
