If she likes the patina, clean and lay on a bunch of clear coat. You might consider removing the verticle row of doors or maybe just the middle one. Add in some led light strips and then she would have some lighted shelf space. If the floors are nasty inside that thing, cover with wood or glue down some of that cheap carpet lowes sells by the roll. I use that stuff in my tool boxes, I love it. I don't even have to glue it down. Good luck, hope you show it when you're done! It's a neat piece.

Ditto

Or cork sheets for the inside shelves.

If she doesn't like the patina/rust.....then sandblast and powder coat/rattle can

I would just take a wire wheel to it and get all the big stuff off. Prime and maybe paint each door a different girly color or whatever she likes glitter spray is your friend on this one I think. @jagboy69 has some great ideas on the led strips and covering the floors!

I like the multi color idea. Found something like that on the web.

Have her help you and get a photo. Print it out and stick it on the back/bottom. It'll be worth a hug years from now.

Don't ask.
Clean it up. Straighten doors. Then whatever she wants (clear, paint, colors, decals, mirror, lights, hangers or drawers for jewlery, small storage bins etc.).

If she likes the rustic patina look, Clear it like others mentioned.

If she wants to start fresh, I'd check into having it blasted. All those recessed door openings are going to be a PITA to sand, brush and clean the old paint out of. Definitely a job where "what's your time worth?" comes into play.
