What to do with cheap sockets

In addition to some of the suggestions here. I'd keep them for putting together universals, knocking out or installing bushings or seals. Or as suggested already for an extension for a press. Also you never know when you may need to make a custom socket. You never know you might need an extreme deepwell 15/16" or something similar some day. You don't want to waste a good socket on that.

About 2 years ago I started throwing them in the rollaway at the company cabinet shop. They always seem to disappear from the cabinet shop & it saves me from having to grab them off my truck. I also throw in duplicates of decent tools (Technically that should be quadruplicates. One for my garage, one for the work truck, one for the Bronco, so it is the fourth of anything that goes to the shop). After years of frustration it brings a certain satisfaction to actually grab & use any tool needed from out of that set.

I have twice had my tools stolen and had to start over in life.

When you have nothing, a compleye set of Chinese tools beats the hell out of one or twork good wrenches.

I would try to arrange them into sets, or as close as you can get, and offer them up for sale or trade.

I will be doing this soon with some "great neck" wrenches and sockets. Even if someone doesn't need them for their own usage, they likely know someone young who could use such a set.

I have had all my tools stolen twice as well. First my ex when i took off for just a day she gave them all away all my grandpas and dads I inherited. Second I had to let my storage building go after having to move out of a house and all my stuff went to my mother in laws. I then got a job at a junk yard taking out motors and trannys and I needed them so I went to get them and my box was almost empty wasn't a socket or wrench one. I had nothing again had to use cheap loaner tools at my job and had to do at least 4 cars a day and everything else and I got through with Chinese tools. Then my step dad gave me a small box of cheap tools for my home use and ran into a lot of car problems a few years ago after and they saved my ***. Anything is better than nothing. I have since then found all my tools at mother in laws and stole them back. Well you can't steal what was yours anyways and I've since acquired a hell of a lot more and upgraded to all USA tools. All my off brand stuff I put together in a small box and gave them to my wife so she could have her own tools. Gave her some nice stuff also... I'd give the extra tools to someone in need.

I don't know how many 10mm sockets someone needs, but apparently I need a lot of them. I just built an entire rack of nothing but 10mm sockets. I found that 10mm was the most common lost/carried off socket in my tool box. I also have a bunch of cheap sockets I culled from the main box. I'm wondering if these cheap socket sets breed and multiply when you shut off the lights. Maybe it's like amoeba and they divide cells to duplicate. I confined them to an equally cheap plastic tool box. If there are more sockets when I open the box, I don't know what I'll do. However, I'm afraid that I may wake up some morning and have two or more cheap plastic tool boxes full of these things. It may be something extraterrestrial or supernatural. Either way I hope someone will figure out how to stop this madness.

I keep them for modifying since there is no warranty on them.I do the same with the wrenches as well.Last time I had to grind down the open end of one for access on a pair of Rancho shocks.Have an area for wrench access and my good wrenches would not fit in there.That cheap wrench saved my **** that day.

Find a nice durable waterproof box, throw them into it with a weird note talking about how they are relics for some religion (just make something up) then bury them with a bunch of other junk deep in the ground somewhere. So in 2000 years when some archeologist digs them up they'll think they are holding some priceless, historically important artifacts from the ancient past.

I save them all and I am putting together a nice collection for my grandson when he is ready. He is 7 now so won't be long and "papa" will have him working on his dirt bike. That way , not if, but when he loses something , no big deal. When it's not there next time he needs it, he will understand.
