I got these 2 rolling laptop carts at a school auction. They would be useful for something but i can't think of a good use for them. I can definitely modify them if there's something they would be good for!?

Depends on how you want to use / what tools you have.

If you have bunch of cordless stuff (drill, impact, screwdriver, sawzall, light, etc) then it would be nice to have them each in their own slot and battery chargers plugged in - - keep on floor and roll around to where needed. Conversely, you could take off wheels and attach to wall and make it a wall cabinet with power.

If you have bunch of air tools that you use, then it could store grinder, cutoff wheel, ratchets, etc (ie electric part of cart not used).

Either way, a small toolbox could go on top and get wheeled around to where needed in garage.

Personally I would use them to mount bench top sanders, drill press, and such.
Keeps things mobile and store the accessories for them inside

+1 on Power tool storage. It'd be perfect for that. Delete individual partitions as necessary to accomodate wider tools. Then attach grinders, saws, or other large stationary type tools on top.

Thread revival! I am surprised I couldn't find more threads on laptop carts. Woodgate, what did you end up doing with these? They are becoming a common item at school auctions. This thread is a few years old, I'm hoping to get a few more great ideas to use these carts for, I have just sourced a couple of them.

I have one of the old A/V carts. I use it for a car detailing station. So, I can just wheel it around to the side of the vehicle that I am working on. Works pretty awesome

I have a benchtop router table and a Sharp printer stand/cart that seem to be working very well together.

Having worked around a lot of IT equipment in schools and elsewhere, I would not suggest removing all the vertical dividers. Maybe half at most.

The school stuff will be better built and most likely cheaper than the Ikea.
The laptop carts I have seen had horizontal storage and begged for those flat small parts trays.
Yours could have a shelf added in each hole and then put a parts container in there,

I am always looking for better small parts storage. I'd like to come up with some kind of sliding drawer system for each compartment. I'll add that to my list of projects, with any luck, someone will do the hard part first and figure out the best way and just post up directions ;)
I like your idea kbs2244, but the compartments are a lot deeper than the parts bins... hmmm.....
