I move every 2.5-3 yrs. No choice.
This motor came from my old CH 30 gal compressor. Got rid of the tank since it developed a leak. The motor is in great shape. I do not know what to do with it but I think I'd like to put it to use but for what? Give some ideas please.

I already have a shop fan. I think 5hp would be a bit too much power :lol_hitti

Or if I was to sell it, how much? :dunno:

Going by the spec plate which shows 120 volt and 15 amp you are not getting 5 hp out of that motor....... no matter what CH says....VBG

5hp my a$$ Also that is probably not a cont duty motor either. Maybe, maybe 2hp if the stars are aligned properly and you hold your mouth just right. Does the compressor actually work? Sell it for parts? :dunno: That is not going to be a good general purpose motor IMHO.

Most definitely. See if you can seperate the motor from the directly driven piston and then see what kind of shaft you are left with. Hopefully it is a standard size and you can put a pulley on it to make it usable as a universal motor.

The duty rating on it is going to be the deciding factor. Unless it is continuous duty it wont last long running a fan.

Actually on closer inspection it seems the front of the motor and the pump are one piece. Meaning you cannot remove the compressor pump from the motor.

In that case it is pretty much scrap unless you want to continue using it as a compressor on a new tank.

I see it's an oilless. I would have expected the tank to out last that compressor unit.

You could mount in on some kind of base and just connect a hose to the outlet port and use it to pump up tires and such.

They rate compressors @ startup HP which is 5. So thats the instantaneous HP rating during its initial start up. It might be 1.5 or 2hp during normal running.

look close on the name plate. It clearly says 1HP. Not much you can do with it as anything but another compressor. I'd throw it on CL for $40. Someone will buy it.

lukedwag it is the marketing dept rating of the compressor mfg and not the motor mfg or any recognized agency that comes up with that gibberish.

Fyrme better look a little closer as the "clearly 1 HP" you see is actually PH 1 meaning it is a single phase motor.

This fellow makes some good points about these claims although it is a little out of date.

I stand corrected. I even looked at it twice before posting that. I had to zoom in to see the 'H' was a 'P'

.
The entire unit lasted about 13-15 yrs.

I thought about buying a new tank only but at the prices that I was finding online, I just bought a bfa 80 gal Quincy. A lot quieter than this pos.

I was not sure that it was a full 5HP but I just posted the whole thing here as the label read. I will try cragslist for a bit...if not sold, then I will toss the sob on the river as an anchor when I go fishing.
