Ok, I found an old Columbian vise in the barn. It's been used hard in its day. Aside from the layer of rust, the bends in the handles, I think the jaws are actually bent. If you sight down them, they aren't straight. It doesn't just appear to be the replaceable jaws bent either, but the main body of them. You close it, and there is a slight gap on each end.

Is it destined for the scrap pile?

Don't see any reason not to use it either. Granted it may not clamp something as efficiently as a vise with better jaws but it will still clamp. And if I understand correctly , it was ...

I'm with 6530. If you are at all concerned about it's remaining service life, send it my way. I could easily make that a nice addition to my shop.

You might try taking a file and fit it loosely between the jaws. Move the file too and fro. Take off a little bit of material, then snug the vise up some more and repeat until both faces are true to each other. I just did this on an old vise and it restored it to very usable condition. Its not scrap yet.

Yea does't look that bad. Not really a gonner and I would use it still.

Although you could always bury it on the beach real deep. It would really screw with those detector folks haha

Are replacement jaws still available for these vise's? May be getting 3 with worn out jaw's.
