So I know a few of you have the Homak 41' toolbox from costco as seen below. My problem is the big square drawer in the top box. I've tried storing different things in it but its a real pain in the ***! Had it as my 'electrical' drawer up until today but i got fed up moving stuff to get to stuff underneath.

If any of you have this box what have you used this drawer for? I'd like to modify it to make it more usefull. I store all my spray lubricants/ether etc in the locker so that doesn't work.

Any ideas?:Help:

i have a deeper drawer like that in my box, I use it to store my auto specialty tools that have blow mold cases

I also dont have a locker to keep those tools in so thats why they stay there. If a welding helmet would fit I would store that in there with a chipping hammer and gloves

you have the same drawer in the bottom box, what's in there? :dunno:

This is EXACTLY why I generally don't like the deep space wasting drawers... two, maybe three 4" deep, The rest, keep em shallow and make lots of 'em...

Blow molded cases, I'm thinking of the s small ones that bit sets or specialty sockets come in. Or see if you can buy three of the shallow drawers and slides from Homak- I bet the inside of the box already has the holes drilled for the slides.

It's a real waste of a drawer! I'd prefer if the bottom ones were full width.

We have a shop welder so the helmet stays with that.

Bottom drawer in the bottom box has miscellaneous stuff, bearing packers, ratchet straps etc. stuff that doesn't get used often.

I don't have any drawers like that, but if I did I would probably keep an eye out for a a fishing tackle box that fits the drawer pretty well and then store lots of specialty bits, tools, fittings, etc. in all the individual cells of the tackle box.

+1 This^^^

I have a 26" Craftsman that I use just for storage of odd stuff. It has some deep drawers that I use fishing tackle boxes to fill. Works great as they're transportable too.

*I hate deep drawers and it's why I always try to buy the boxes with thin drawers. Tool boxes are too expensive to be wasting space on blow molded case storage.

I'd be tempted to put in all the assortment boxes of things like grommets, spring clips, cotter pins, heat shrink tubing, O rings, etc. There's always a need for storage of those plastic sorting bins.

Not real impressed with that drawer layout in general, but wonder if you could switch that drawer with the second and third drawers from the bottom box on that side? Seems to make more sense to have the shallower drawers up higher.

Odd drawer layout, just checked my 41 Hammerhead. It has 2 stacks of 6 on the bottom & 5 & 2 on the top. The deeper one on the upper right is sized for hanging files.

I was thinking the same thing. Other than a hammer drawer i really don't care for that size of drawer.

Most likely you can. Most of the deep Homak drawers have double slides, and all the spaces to mount them as the same layout as the shallow drawers. Just pop the slides out, move them to where you want them, and slide the drawers back in.

We moved a deeper drawer up to the top of my buddy's 26" Homak lower so he could fit all his sockets on trays instead of laying them down. Worked great, and took under 10 minutes to swap everything around.

I've tried swapping but the locking mechanism for the top and bottom boxes are different. So when drawers from the bottom are in the top they don't close, they stick out a 1/2 inch.

Want to try utilize the space best I can but maybe a miscellaneous drawer is best.

That's too bad.
I guess it all depends on the work you do and if it's a work or home box.
