Try to coach him along teach him how slowly to do some of the work his self it might pay off in the end you might unleash an animal that you can go tool shopping with and work on cars together.

If you've decided you can't teach him, then you can accept him as a friend without him knowing anything about cars, or give him up as a friend. But I gotta say, seems like a friend wouldn't give up.

What difference does it make if he knows anything about cars if he is putting beer in the fridge? A friend who brings beer is a good friend.

Seriously, as long as you two get along who cares. Just be glad to have a friend you can hang out with.

Tell him to get a cooler and buy the beer the day before and ice it down. That way it'll be good and cold when you get done fixin' his car.

There was a guy a bit younger than me that I met through a good friend of mine. After we met and he saw my cars he used to beg me to work on his truck for him because he was a broke college student and was not mechanical at all..

I reluctantly helped him out a few times, he was kind of annoying and was always trying to be involved/help but he just got in my damn way and wouldn't shut up.

FF about 10yrs. I've watched him mature some, finish college, and try to make a future in the workforce. He goes out of his way to bring food or beer when he comes by now even when not working on his car, and he still can't turn a wrench for sh*t.

But we have become good friends. So there is the possibilty of getting used for your tools, and the issue of not having anything in common. But you may just gain a loyal friend in the long run.

Good Luck!

Can we assume that you are as profecient with a keyboard as he is and could not learn a thing from him? We choose friends not so much that they can do what we do but what they bring to our lives.

look at it this way, he'll get the beer and put it in the fridge, you fix his stuff, and if you need computer work or tech support you have him around, and you have a friend that you dont have to worry about losing your tools or putting them back in the wrong spots covered in grease and dirt.

Slow down, smell the roses, have a free beer and show the guy a thing or two. The network guy at my place of employment builds and races motorcycles.

he is computer dude i cant teach him much

I am probably the biggest computer nut/geek whatever on these forums and I love cars, working on them, and have a couple nice toys myself.

For some people it's just not their thing. While he may be able to teach you things you don't know, you probably don't care enough to know them... same goes with him.

You want your computer to work, you don't care how... he wants his car to work, he doesn't care how...

At least you have a beer and wrench monkey, he brings the beer, you put on the brakes. lol.
