Well I found a sweet Reed 4C on CL that looks fairly nice. Except it has a foot broken off of the swivel. I told the guy I'd give him $200 BEFORE I saw the broken foot. I thought it was a fair price for both parties.

If he can find the broken foot in his shop, I am still fine with $200. Am I crazy? Am I over paying for this vise? I think its still a reasonably deal, I'd like to have one in my collection.

If I'm not mistaken, a 4c is a huge vise so as long as there no other damage, I would say it is good. If the vise is the style where if you remove the base and it can mounted stationary like wiltons do, I would do that. Post in the vise swap thread for a base, you may get lucky.

If I'm not mistaken reed used four hold down points and I think three would hold it just fine but I would still take money off your offer I would probably offer around 180 since the broken foot. But sounds like one heck of a cool vise and pics are always welcomed :).

Collection?? Where's the pics?

$200 wouldn't be a bad price if he can find the missing piece. They don't come up for sale too often.

Haha don't have pics of the collection and sadly it's not much. I gave my athol 324 away to a friend who now has it sitting outside rusting. Grr. Otherwise I just have a columbian 605, two Parker 974s, a viet & young, 3" dinker desmond simplex, and a 4 1/2 Wilton(don't know exact model). The reed will help round things out.

Thats a killer price for a vise that big (180+lbs) and quality. The broken foot does hurt the value some. One just sold on ebay for 223.00 and it was in great shape, aside from somebody adding a metal plate to the base of the vise. It was either to beef it up to prevent breaking or an overkill repair but still a great price.

The last two i've seen were 500.00, missing the swivel base, and 700.00 in nice condition. 200.00 is a steal:thumbup:
