I have been looking for a box like this for a while to restore.
Found this for around 200 but it is 4 hours away.
He even has the original keys!
Offered 150 but was shot down.
Give up or what?

I wish someone within a hour of me had one to sell reasonable!

you are on the right track and just be patient you'll find something good soon if the economy keeps improving. I wish you lived closer I just bought 3 of these and probably only need one or two. mine were not craftsman, but other high quality names you need to put on your search list.

Snap on
Waterloo
MBCentury

and I've passed on others that seemed to have the same look and design. $200 isn't a horrible price if it's in decent shape, but a full day's drive if you don't have another reason to go there and another $100 in gas should make your decision easier.

PM me if you want to see some pics of my boxes or you might check the old tool box thread for them and other options.

good luck

Go and buy it for $175 , yep it's four hours , but you can waste two hours of your life watching a **** movie ,waste even more time shopping with a woman !

you'll kick yourself if you miss it

It looks a honest old box too , perhaps you could combine the trip and collect more toys ?

There again I'm easily lead .

If he has an old box then maybe he has some old tools as well. Ask him before you go if he has anything else for sale. Then when you get there you can try to bundle a deal.

Ah yes, I've seen that one a few times. It's been listed a few times as well so. ;) The lack of pictures doesn't instill a lot of confidence to me.

My take, unless you really like that specific box, I'd keep looking. A 4 hour trip? You are probably looking at ~$50 just in gas alone? It's not the most space efficient box, with only 6 drawers + open top and bottom. The condition is questionable, back to the lack of pictures comment. The problem with older boxes that get wet or rusty is that they can trap moisture in the double wall structure and rust from the inside out. Me, I'd pass. If it was down the street or a ~20min drive for ~$150 yea maybe, again condition dependent. Just my 2¢

If I had Craftsman themed garage aka RL I would jump on that as around these parts those come around about....never. Anyway it is a high price for what it is but if CM is your thing why not?
