I have a 10' utility trailer with pressure treated 2x8's for the bed. Wondering what would be a good preservative for the bed. Deck sealer does not seem to hold up very long.

Rhino liner? Mine is just painted. Holds up well enough.

I like the do it yourself rhino liner idea as well. It's a blank canvas so you could do most anything you want at this point. I suppose what you actually transport in it may dictate what route you go. Paint is cheap and easy. Screwing down some diamond plate would look nice but would sure add a lot of weight and would prove slippery if you plan on spilling oil and what not on it. Let us know what you end up doing, I'd be interested in pics. Thanks.

It'll still rot in the sun.. just ask my deck. :(
And adding some hardware-store sealant to it won't slow it down any... as the OP has already experienced.

The best thing you can do to protect it is keep it out of the sun, under a cover or a shed roof.

Get more life out of trailer deck boards by using sand/seal techniques just like a wood deck . .
. . . . . but added benefit of trailer is you can . . .
. . . . FLIP OVER the boards every few years to bring up some "fresh" wood !! ;)

I hit up my Amish saw mill buddy. He cut me some 2" thick black locust. It was a lot cheaper than I thought it would be, less than $200 for enough to deck my 20'x80" car hauler. I'm pretty sure that will be the last deck I put on that trailer. Keith

My trailer has 2" thick black oak boards. I scrub in motor oil. If I need to haul furniture or something I just put down a tarp.

Don't use used diesel oil......unless you like a nasty mess DAMHIK:lol:
I did use some used motor oil and it works well and isn't near as messy as the diesel oil.

I have never used it for a deck application, but for all of my wood handles (lots of sun exposure) I give them a wipe with linseed oil every 6 months or so. Cheap and just a quick wipe with a rag.
