Hi guys,

So I recently kept running into a problem, and I'm pretty sure many people do too. I've been getting a lot of surprise points from Sears (usually $5 for $10 purschase, $8 for $12, $10 for $20, etc.), and I've been trying to find what's worth buying because I don't want the points to go to waste . I mostly try to buy small tools I might need in the near future, tools I don't have yet, or just expand or buy backups for my current tools.

So I'm hoping this thread could give people some ideas on small tools ($5 to $20) that they might want to spend their surprise points on.

I get surprise points every few weeks, and I've bought these so far

3 pc. Pry bar set USA
Screwdriver sets USA
12 oz. Two faced hammer USA
Punch and chisel set USA
20 in. Portable toolbox
Ball Grip Screwdrivers

What I want to buy next: adjustable wrenches, locking adjustable wrench, Mach T Handle, etc.
Please add your suggestions!

Witte maxxpro plus screwdrivers(Same as Matco but cheaper). I also got a few ball grip screwdrivers for free, I'm actually a big fan of them since you can use it as a regular driver also...They'd make good stocking stuffers too.

Craftsman convertible retaining ring pliers(USA made): http://www.sears.com/craftsman-2-pc...p-00947385000P?prdNo=3&blockNo=3&blockType=G3

I bought these Craftsman 5.5' needle nose pliers just because they were on sale and I got them for under a buck, I assume they'll be slightly nicer than HF: http://www.sears.com/craftsman-professional-5-1-2-in-needle-nose-pliers/p-00945661000P

They've also had bit sets and aviation snips on sale recently. I've heard the snips are really good...the bits not soo much. Don't forget you can always limit your search by discount on the left side. In store i found a nice top mat on clearance for $5, wasn't able to find it on the website.

A few ballpeins are always good here and there (more so if you get good ones later on, these will be beaters). $10-$20 cost for most (4 with wooden handles and another 12oz rubber tipped is $54)

Wire strippers are excellent low cost to fill for future needs (Ideal rebrands still). $12-$18

Pliers. The slip joints are excellent (if you like that design style). The duckbills are great. Hell, most of the pliers are fairly good (and also watch for deals on Knipex and the like).

I'm a big fan of those Craftsman plastic tool boxes, especially the 23" and 26". I use them to store extra tools and parts above my garage wall cabinets. For a while I was using my "weekly" free surprise points to collect a few of each size for nearly free! They are now evidently being clearanced to make room for the newer models, and for me to find locally is near impossible unless I want pay full retail for what stock is left at OSH or ACE Hardware. Just last weekend I ordered a few more from Sears online at clearance prices and free shipping, so my suggestion for anyone interested, get them cheap while you still can!

You can use them to get the Pro or regular add on pry bars to get them at a decent price. The 10"(8.99) and 31"(22.49) are showing in stock online, thought they won't match the red handle ones, they are a step above them, made in USA and has a striking cap unlike the red handle versions.

They also have the 36"(18.99) and 31"(23.01) and even the 8" ($9.49) red handle pry bars in stock online now. 8" was almost all ways out of stock. The 36" is the only one showing a good price though, rest are near retail price but the surprise points may change that.

check your local ad to see if anything is going cheaper. Mine still shows some deals but they made it harder to find them. Two of my nearest stores had the metric polished Flare wrench set for $20 and the metric polished Double box end offset wrench sets for $25 Both about 50% cheaper then the main site. Made in china and lower quality then the USA Pro versions I have but they work ok so far and I paid for them with points only.

Some stores are still showing Dewalt socket kits for half off on the local ad also but the prices in store are back to retail. ranges from $16 for the 1/4" to $24 for the 1/2"

Same goes for the mechanic specialty tool section, I picked up the 1/4 turn snap ring pliers, cylinder hone and steering wheel puller all for under $10-15 each Most of them just with points.

I just did this same thread a few days ago. I built up a decent set of Knipex pliers with points and I've been filling out my Gearwench ratcheting wrench sets. They have a pretty good selection. You have to kinda watch though as the price for the wrenches fluctuates quite a lot day by day.
