Buying snap on at 1/2 price can be a good value. They are high quality tools. That being said if you watch Ebay and craigslist you can find snap on tools for around 40-50% off for new to lightly used tools. So this isn't your last chance to get snap on at a decent price. Going the ebay or craigslist route is more work however. You will lose bidding many times compared to the winning bids if you want to stay in that 50% off range.
Choose what you buy from snap on wisely and buy cheaper tools where you don't need snap on. I'd probably buy a few snap on ratchets, a mid length socket set, and maybe a flare nut wrenche set. Short and deep sockets buy from williams or others. If you are an auto guy buy only metric from snap on and buy SAE in cheaper brands. Don't go into huge debt - be careful.
