Interesting thing about the sizes that "walk away". My problem size is 1/2". This seems to be the most common size on bikes, household items, and small stuff on vehicles. And yes, sometimes its me just misplacing things.

I always make the mistake of walking to the bench with a Tool from under the car. Then spend the next forever looking for the tool in the pile of Tools under the car, around the car and in the Engine Bay. When the whole time it is the only thing on the Bench! Damn!

YES! i've done this too. :rocker:

"What tools walk away most?" Any that I leave where my step sister's husband can find them! I left a small tool box full of tools at my dad's so when I'm there I have stuff to do repairs on stuff. My "brother-in-law" found it and now about 1/3 of the tools are missing! He doesn't steal them, just uses them and leaves them where ever he feels like (garage floor, front yard, back yard, in his truck, etc.) and they never find their way back into the box. I ended up bring the box home and bring it back and forth with me, I can't afford anymore "borrowing"!

Number 1 for me are Phillips Screw Drivers! All variants. I lose them every time I work on something. Its maddening!!! Number 2 are tape measures. I have four, and at any given time I can only locate 1 of them. A different one every time I look!

After that, its the most common sizes in sockets. 1/2", 9/16", 10, 12, 13, 15 mm. I haven't "lost" one of them in years though. Since I came here, I'm slightly better organized!

Lowes had a "special offer" pack from Skil last year that had about 100 drill bits for $10. All the small ones you usually lose/break from a standard fractional set.
I bought 4 of those and wish I had bought more.

I solved this issue the same way I solved the problem of, "Where are the scissors..." I just kept buying more of the missing items, until we finally reached the 'saturation point.' With scissors and pens around the house, I just put a set everywhere I need them...that way they don't 'walk' to from another room when I need them 'here.'

I keep a mini set of tools in the side table by my chair. Just about the first thing I do with any new 'toy' is to disassemble it and see how it works...I usually do that in my favorite chair in the living room, so that is where I keep some basic tools.

I'm a safety freak, so I tend to always be looking for safety glasses...so I just kept buying the less expensive ones until I cannot help but find a pair when I need them...I keep some by the lawnmower, some by the stationary power tools, some in each tool box, etc...

i did the same with pieces of wood i use to jack stuff up with, place on lift arms etc.

i went and got a buncha 2x4s and 4x4s / cut them up and now they are all over the shop and the specific pieces that i keep and use for myself mysteriously never get lost now.
who knew?

1) Brake cleaner and Liquid Wrench
2) Valve stem core removers. I do like one tire a week but I keep loaning out my only remaining remover and I always have to go track it down.
3) Free HF flashlights. I should have like 12 of them by now instead of 1.
