What *WAS* this? (Tool ID)

I'm not asking what this is, I'm asking what it *was*. Why? It was a tool I put inside a toolbox with a bunch of other tools and left in storage about a decade. The screwdrivers all were chalky with CRAFTSMAN barely visible.

I *think* this was a quick exchange countersinking drill bit and if you pulled a retention ring (now broken) and pull it out to reverse for a screwdriver bit itself.

Since it was or technically still a Craftsman, I wonder if I could return it for a new one?

Sears item #64332.

And still manufactured! Okay, I'll have to take this one down to Sears and see about a swap.

Sears declined the warranty stating their warranty covers hand tools only. Any thing with a wearable surface including drill bits, power tools, or anything you attach to a power tool is considered a consummable item and does not carry *any* warranty, not even a 90 day. The warranty printed on the package only covers DOA out of the package itself. If you attempt to use the product in any way, you void the warranty.

Really? If you attempt to use the product you void the warranty? I know what they meant, but that was really a poor way to word it to me. I think that customer service manager was confused.

I asked about screwdrivers, sockets, etc. All carry a lifetime warranty. If they break, then that is the end of the life of the tool and the warranty is void.

Yeaaaah, I think I'll go to another Sears store. Perhaps with one that isn't spreading misinformation. I don't expect to get this part replaced- the environment destroyed it, but that's just bad customer service and has soured me enough to avoid that particular store now.

Customer service is important. When you do it wrong, you lose customers.

Definitely they should warranty it, I'd sue them...

You are really wasting your time with this? It's an eleven dollar drill adaptor that you didn't store correctly. aluminum in contact with steel in a humid environment will do that. It isn't Sears fault that this happened, it's yours. Man up and take responsibility for your mistake instead of trying to find someone else to blame.

I kinda agree, it wasn't that the tool was used and blew apart the first time... nice try though!

My thoughts exactly. Sears has one of the best warranties in the business but... you really didn't expect to walk in with some junk you recovered from the Titanic & get it replaced did you ? Take responsibility for the obvious neglect YOU caused.
