What was this tool used for?

This is a 2-piece tool, about 45 years old.
About 8.5" long assembled.

Anyone know what it was used for?

I was thinking maybe a spring on brake drums, but I think not....

It's a scraper handle. You insert a razor blade type blade (but thicker, made for scraping) in the slot, then turn the top handle part to tighten the holder.

They ****, as they don't hold the blades very well, and if you tighten it more, the blades snap.

this is my Brown & Sharp Radius and Fillet gauge set. Not exactly the same but quite similar. The handle is about 4" long.
