What will 20K BTU's do for a small detached garage?

It will reach and maintain 60* when it's 7* out. I have a 24 x 24 x 10 pole barn. It has 2 builder grade insulated garage doors an entry door and a window. I would describe the insulation as decent and the structure is not exactly tight. The heater is a 25K BTU (20K net) radiant tube heater.

I went out to the garage the other night, is was 7* outside. The heat was on 55*. I punched the stat up to 60* and in 2 hours it reached 60 and turned off. It came back on shortly after, but I bet I could have reach 62 had I tried. I knowingly put a small heater in for various reasons, but I really didn't think it would make the 60's when it's in the single digits. :eyecrazy:

What was the outside temp when you did this? What fuel source are you using as well? The guy at lowes kind of steered me away from it saying it wouldn't heat up my garage very well.
My garage is 28 x 30. I'm not needing a full time heater but something I can use for the weekends to work on my POS Honda...

It won't heat 1000 sq/ft.

I have a 15k to 25k btu propane heater. I'll heat my 14'x22' garage from 30 degrees to about 55-60 degrees depending on outside temp and how many times I open the door. I'll usually turn it down a little once it is at temp just to hold it.

You mean it's set to come on at a specific temp setting or the heater is literally running 24hrs a day?
