What will remove CV grease

I've got my $$$ wheel cleaning brushes contaminated with CV boot grease...
right now I've got them pretreated with my citrius gel to see how ~ungreased~ it gets.

Any recommendations peeps. These are $40-$50+ brushes if I recall....

Nothing. LOL.
Be careful with carb spray and brake cleaner. I have seen carb spray eat clear coat on wheels.
I just take a good degreaser and tire brush. Then scrub like crazy.

I'm not trying to remove the grease off my wheel....
I did not even realize the boot was torn until it started picking up the grease from the back of my wheel........it's these $$$$ boutique wheel brushes I'm trying to baby yet get them clean.

We repacked & put a new boot on the wife's car, went thru 5 cans of brake clean & made a big mess. From here on out if I get a torn boot I will just install a new half shaft, not that much more money & a whole lot less work & mess to clean up.

Be careful with this one..... heat a bowl of water, then put a smaller bowl of mineral spirits inside.. HOT mineral spirits is a lot more active than cold. But that oughta do it. No open flames, well vented area, etc.

Gooday mate, saw your message, thought I would give you my two cents worth from Australia. I have never posted on this site before (will one day to show my garage, but just like looking at the moment) Just a couple of weekends ago I was trying to clean CV grease from my front wheel (alloy, clear coated). Try WD40, it worked a treat for me, simple green, even undiluted did not do a thing. Spray the WD40 on, agitate with a nylon brush and hose off (I used a pressure hose). Now we call it WD40 here, and I am sure you have it over there, but also try CRC or any penetrant, I think that they will all work, but once again, WD40 worked very well for me, cheers and good luck, James Merriner

My Dad used to have a trucking company and also drove trucks. Always used to get grease on him, usually from the hitch plate on the back of the frame. Anyways, the trick he learned was to spray his clothes where the grease was with WD40, then throw them into the washing machine. Grease always came out.

I wouldn't think that WD40 would damage the brushes. Then once you've done that, you could go with a citrus or maybe even Dawn in hot water to get the WD40 out. I just think you're going to have to do it in stages.
