Hi,

looking for suggestions,

with the foundation footings and framing done, have a little bit of time before the garage floor will be poured.

Because of elevation issues had 40 or so trucks of sand put into the garage area, one large area is 6 plus feet deep

So was thinking, could be some great real estate in the under slab area....

What would you consider........

Some ideas so far...

1) a floor safe,
2) some cooling lines for the compressed air,
3) gun locker
4) maybe the compressor itself with access hatch, dam things are noisy

and please no inlaw jokes......

cheers,
Ken J

We always had a running joke about being in the right business (residential construction) for getting rid of bodies.
We always knew what day the inspection was and what day the pour was!

But, I'll second the storm shelter if the garage isn't on the back 40.

Do they still make pre-cast concrete septic tanks ? You could bury one for hiding stuff, and use as a storm shelter as well.

My first thought, was also a whole bunch of **** you cant type on the internet. Along the lines of "x wives, ect.,.."

Storm shelter/bomb shelter sounds like a winner.

Monster-in-law, or exwife sounds less like a winner.

How about just driving a fully functional Hudson Hornet

or the like right on in. It might take up a big bit of the

six feet you need to fill, and who knows, everything gets

torn down sooner or later...what a surprise for the new owner.

Thanks guys,

have a question though,

I think I know what a storm cellar is, but can someone be more specific?

Im up in snow country where all homes have full concrete basements, but as we have a front and back porch both with concrete pads on top, we essentailly have 2 full concrete cold cellars. So Im assuming this is what you could call a storm cellar????

So other than bodies, what would be good under the slab?

Im hoping to eventually install a 2 post hoist, so big footings is already planned.

Like the idea of some big *** conduit from one side to the next,,,thanks.

Cheers,
KJ

Square receivers in the pad for winching/anchoring or to put equipment like a bag stand for metal work.
How amour you install a pit and it can be used for service or storing things that you don't often need

I think I would have put in an access door from the outside and built a storage vault with 6' of fill. You could put the air compressor down there along with a generator to back feed your power when it goes down.

I like the compressor idea, and the anchors in the floor for winching in cars is a good idea too. What about a still? You could be making your own booze down there.

D. All of the above.

Whatever you can afford to put under there just do it. My buddy has multiple gun safes in various places in his hose slab. Make them deep enough to fit a rifle with a smaller access door on the top. Then you have to fab up a basket like contraption closely resembling a parts dipper to access everything. I forgot the brand of Safe's that my buddy used but they weren't easy to find being so tall and skinny with the access on top.

Depending on what type of rifle you have, a section of PVC drain pipe would work. Glue a cap on the end and a cleanout on the other. All it would need is a hidden spot to selectively place it in the garage.

My buddy's father-in-law bought an old bowling alley. He has dozens of old bowling balls buried under his slab.
