What would you do differently ?

Good afternoon:
I'm in the design phase of an attached in law suite that will house a 3 car garage on the ground floor, a full basement underneath the garage ( will most likely use spancrete) and a small living area above the garage, mostly for pesky relatives that I don't want in the main part of the house.

I've already completed the detailed site survey and plat, right now my architect says I can fit a building 50ft wide X 30 ft deep before sending the local zoning beaurocrats in Cobb county GA into hysterics.

As you all have worked your projects, what would you do differently if you could start over again or what did you do that you love about your garage that you would definitely do again ?

Thanks so much for your input !

First....welcome to GJ....

If you do a search, there is a thread on "What would you do different" or something like that.

In my case, knowing what I know now, use a different concrete contractor....but then again, that is how you learn.

It sounds like you are off to a good start.

Be sure to post pics

And read through all the threads to see what mistakes others made

Thanks John !
I've already been thinking an awful lot about concrete. To support the spancrete sections that will end up being the base of my garage floor I will need to pour 12" footers and the finish for the garage floor will have be be poured as well, not to mention a new driveway and sidewalks. There will be quite a lot of concrete poured on this site, I wonder if the county would let me start up a ready mix plant in my backyard ....

I'll search for that thread as well, thanks again !
