Last week I was at the scrap yard getting some material and in my digging I cam across an IR duplex type 30 air compressor. I spun pumps and motor by hand and everything spun freely with no wobble. At the time I just walked away thinking that's kind of cool and that was that. Well fast-forward to today and I am really debating if I should go back and get it. the motor is a 3 phase motor and I don't remember the HP either way its junk to me (no 3 phase power in my garage) and the tank from what I remember looked ok but I wouldn't hold my breath.... would you pay 100-150 for 2 type 30 pumps in questionable health?

Very hard to say what I'd be willing to gamble on it. If it was junked simply because of a bad motor, could be a hell of a deal if a motor big enough to run it doesn't break your bank. If ether the pump or the tank is bad, I think you have pretty much scrap. Depending on what is good, you might be able to make a frankenpressor out of it with other donor parts.

the paint on pumps was in good shape and I don't remember seeing any oil leaking.....I think If I was to pick them up I would just run one pump and either sell the other or referb it as well and use it as a back up if I ever needed it

If you can get your hands on an inspection camera, take a peep inside the tank. If it's good, then you got a good deal!

Pumps can always be rebuilt and you can always swap for a 1Ø motor.

Scrap is always a gamble. It could be there because it is unrepairable.

Or it could be there because somebody bought a building and that compressor was useless to them and they just wanted it gone quick so they scrapped it.
