What would you have done different?

I'm getting ready to build my barn and trying to come up with a finalized design. I can have up to a 2412 sq/ft according to by laws and must be a single story but no height restriction yet. I'm primarily a car guy and do usually one full restoration annually. I will be putting in a 2 post hoist next year.

My current design is a 40x40x14 with a 6/12 roof. I've designed it with an attic truss with will give me a 8x12 attic up top. I'm planning on 2 10x10 doors and 1 8x8 door on the end. I plan on making a room just inside the 8x8 door of about 10x15x9. This will be store to store my kubota and enclose my compressor away from the main shop. I'm putting such a low ceiling in so I can put stairs behind them and use it for tire storage and to help with attic(poker hideaway). The 25' behind will be for A future paint booth.

I would prefers something wider and a bit shorter but getting into odd dimensions leads to a lot more material waste.

I'm pretty sold on in floor heating, reusing fence boards for my interior walls(thanks gearbanger), waterless urinal and roll up commercial doors. The rest I'm pretty open on

I appreciate all feedback and will upload cad diagrams shortly.

My budget allows me to go bigger but I'm building a house on the property at the same time and would rather save where I can to finish basement sooner for sleeping when I'm on shift.

Not to use 8 ft wide doors. 9 ft min., wide

raising up under the cabinets is a nice one so you can hose off the floor (unless you have raised cabinets)

10x12 doors for a camper, tractor loaded on a trailer etc. Know very little about your project, but wouldn't spend the extra $10k on attic trusses. Instead make 40x60 (2400sqft) using standard trusses for the same price.

My trusses are 6200 as designed which I think is ok. My wife doesn't want it bigger than the house(2300 sq/ft bungalow) it'll be a few hundred feet back from house to minimize the size of it

I am trying to price out 12x12's. I'd rather have the size but I'm sold on my 8x8 so I can have low ceiling. It's just for my little kubota bx1860 so will fit ok even with roll bar.

If you like to paint, bury some ductwork for a downdraft spray booth. Also doubles as an exhaust for welding. Put all cabinets etc on wheels. Put in floor drains.

I love this idea. I'm tackling the floor next winter when funds rebuild as the floor heating will be pricey. I tried to get floor drains in my attached but builder wouldn't allow even though I'm on septic...

You can never have enough outlets. . . I took that to heart when I wired mine. Don't think I'll regret it. Some in the ceiling, lots on the walls.
