What would you make using this "reel"?

I'm looking for some ideas. I've had this thing sitting around the shop and I don't know what to repurpose it as. I've figured a hose reel of some sort but haven't found the ideal parts/set-up to persuade me one way or another.

So, this could be a neat topic. What would you do with it?

I would lean toward a consumable of some sort. I think having to rewind a cord or hose after each use would be a fairly large pain, considering it doesn't have any handles or rewind springs. Not saying they couldn't be added, but as is, not ideal for that.

Do you use any large quantities of tubing, wire, or rope? I would think a rope dispensary would be kind of neat. May not get used much, but it would be handy to spool off a length of rope just right for a job.

looks to me like it was a cable reel from the military.

Add a thrust bearing to the support side and make a revolving stock or maybe filler wire rack

What is the outside diameter?

I think it's a Military COM wire spool.
