buddy of mine has a 30hp motor for sale, (i have to get the make/model) its in good condition, i gave the shaft a spin and it felt fine. Whats it worth? I figured it would make a good rotary phase converter...
It could be worth a lot of $$$$$$$$ to the person who needs it. If i had to have the motor he is selling to get something running i would pay $500.00 if it checks out and is in good running condition.
If a standard frame motor in average shape, a couple hundred bucks tops. If it's a special motor, in NOS condition, or an extra heavy-duty motor, $500 to $750 tops.
Just like Travis said above, it could be worth a lot of money to the person who needs it. It also depends on what part of the selling chain you're on (Distributor/Rep, Contractor, End User).
But since this isn't in the retail market and assuming it's a used motor in good running condition I would also say around $500-750.
There is a glut of new non energy eff. motors getting sold off surplus now, as they can no longer be sold by the normal channels. I would assume thats trashing the used motor market too. I just got a new in the box "surplus" baldor 10hp for $110.00 I wouldn't pay more than 1-200 for a used 30hp if I needed one. Most places that would use a 30hp motor wouldn't touch a used one for free, it's just not worth the downtime/install costs to them to mess with a used motor.
