What's a good silver duct tape?

I'm looking for duct tape with the stickiest adhesive. I just ordered 2 rolls of Nashua 300. It arrived today so I compared it to an old roll of Nashua 300 that I've had for years. Not even close!
The adhesive from the old roll sticks to anything, tightly. The new roll adhesive is like Scotch tape! WTH! I want some good sticky tape! Any ideas?

I get the tape from either L or HD that is foil with an adhesive. That's real "duct tape". Pricey tho. The silver/gray cloth stuff is a joke. If you want tape to use for just GP get the Gorilla stuff.

Gorilla, I use the black. Someone sees the silver tape and thinks it is some type of permanent redneck hack job......but that same person sees the black and they seem to think it is some type of innovative, ingenious temporary fix. Who knew there was such discrimination amongst tape colors?

Both are available just about everywhere.


Another tactic would be to look for "gaffer's tape", "racer's tape", or "speed tape".

But seriously, Gorilla is some damn good stuff at a decent price and extremely easy to find.

Yeah, for anything ductwork go to a sheet metal supply house. Many of the duct tapes and metal tapes found at typical stores are knock-offs of the OEM commercial-grade stuff.
I've used Gorilla 2 part epoxy and it's pretty good. I'd venture a guess that their take on duct tapes would be quality as well.
P.S. just read in my handyman tips file that Gorilla Duct Tape is as strong as the original manufacturer from the 70's was.

Gaffers tape isn't what the OP wants. Duct tape will stick better than gaff. The benefit of gaff tape is that it pulls off clean in one piece and leaves no residue. Especially when used for short lengths of time. Unless you need that it's not worth the 2x-3x premium over duct tape.

If your paying $12 a roll your not getting real gaffers tape. The real stuff is $18-$20 a roll. I've ended up with some of the $12 a roll stuff and it's closer to duct tape than gaffers tape.

What are you using it for? Metal rigid or semi-rigid ductwork? If so, I used 3M 3340 for my dryer and range vent ducting. The tape was strong and adhered very well.

If you're talking metallic tape "speed tape" as we called it in aviation the company I work for used 3M primarily. If you're talking about duct tape I have been using T Rex tape at work and it's better than what they have been using the adhesive doesn't get all over the place.
