What's a toolbox for someone without a pickup?

I've been slowly accumulating my tool collection, and I've far outgrown my 20" 3 drawer Husky. Now, I know the US General 44" chest is a top favorite around here, but I don't quite have enough stuff to fill more than half of the drawers. A bigger problem is I don't have a pickup, and to have it shipped is almost another $100. I was wondering if there's any suggestions for medium capacity chest or cart/drawers.

Does anyone have experience with these? http://www.harborfreight.com/tool-s...-lb-capacity-four-drawer-tool-cart-95659.html

Borrow or rent a truck. If you can fit the 26" stack you can most likely fit the 44" box. I put a 44" box in and out of a mini van by myself.

I fit a HF 44" box in a Toyota Matrix. Had to take it off the skid at the store and lye it on its back. It just fit with the casters on. If you take them off there is tons of room.

I'm not a huge fan of the 44" box, a smaller box such as the Masterforce 30" or 36" might be a good option if you have a Menards any where close. I have the 30" and I love it. If I did it over again I would go for the 36". That gives you drawers as wide as the 44" except for the one full length drawer. The 36" has all full length drawers in the bottom box.

I like full length drawers, it's less opening & closing to grab what you need.

The 26" HF box I bought and returned a while back, it just seemed a little small. I would go bigger than that if you can.

Lowes rents trucks cheaper than homedepot , just look at doing this for a bandsaw but it ended up fitting in the car.

On my things to buy list is a trailer and hitch being a car only owner. Hf sells some sub 200 dollar trailers that would pay for themselves in gas for an owned truck or just a few rental trucks.

Another option would be to stack some boxes and reenforce the frames with weld/sheet metal screws and angle iron/ old bed frames. This option will save a good amount of floor space if you are limited.

we've have several of the black HF carts in our shop for a couple years now.

they have been holding up good so far.

but as suggested, rent a truck or trailer and grab the HF 44" box.

if you've outgrown one box already, and you plan on buying more tools, you're gonna run out of room in either of the carts or the 26" stack.

soon you'll be wanting a bigger box....

Find a friend that will haul it or rent a truck. Worth the logistical issues to figure out getting it home to have a larger box.

I have to say ''surely you have a friend with a truck.'' Make one or better yet get a truck or a small trailer. While I hate to be someones go to every time they need something hauled, if I like them or can swap favors, I'm usually glad to help out. As stated, you can rent a truck for less than the shipping quote, but you'll need some help to unload it probably. Rent a small U Haul truck if needed.

As a generous guy with a truck(s) and trailer(s), I frequently end up being asked for favors. Gives me an excuse to have a beer(s) with friends.

ive had a van, pickup or bronco since '77.

usually more than one at a time....

it was a pita to move my small machinist box in my '68 mustang.

some people just aint the pickup truck type....:dunno:
my SIL is one of them, she's the only one who ever asks to borrow my truck.

nearly everyone i know has at least 1 pickup and at least one trailer.

Thanks for the responses, I went to the local HF to check out the chests again today. There is a HD 5 miles away, so the truck rental may just be the ticket. I have an engine crane at home that can easily pick it off the truck. Just deciding if I need to upgrade to 44" right away, most of my specialty tools have molded cases, loose tools can fill half the drawers and power tools taking up the bottom two.
