What's dis stuff?

These old sockets and this aluminum storage container are part of some stuff I got at a garage sale this morning.
Does anyone have any idea of the brand name of the sockets? I can see “NEW YORK. USA PATD.AUG 5 1924” but I can’t make out the name at the top.

I have no idea what the can was used for, other than I know it was not a “gas can” . Protectoseal is still in business and they make (mostly) stainless steel containers for hazardous materials.

What's the capacity of the can? Being SS you can use it for anything. Generally used in industrial or lab type areas for local dispensing of what ever the desired chemical is.

It looks to be about one gallon, but it's made from Aluminum although the handle is steel.

Hey Outlawmws, thanks for turning me on to the “alloy artifacts” website. After spending some time there it looks like I did much better at the garage sale than I thought. I now know that the Snap-on ½ speeder I bought is from 1923 and what I though were mostly unmarked open end wrenches turned out to be sets from “Page-Storms”, “Moore Drop Forge” and “Vichek Tool” also “Vichek Standard open ends and punches. Good stuff to know when I sell this stuff next winter. Thanks again.

The container may be aluminum so it's non-sparking, for use with flammable liquids. I've seen similar containers used for acetone or other solvents in manufacturing facilities.

I think that site is run by a single person with a serious love of tools, just like the Plomb website. I don't know when there have been other updates but the host just might have his hands full.

Maybe try again sometime and see if you get a reply.
