What's in plumbers putty?

Just wondering what the ingredients
are?

Not supposed to tell anyone, but it's really just Play-Doh.

It's got a similar consistency, but it is oil based, rather than water based, so it does not dry out. It also contains clay (most likely kaolin) rather than flour, so it doesn't grow mold, but that makes it inedible, unlike Play-Doh.

Mostly calcium carbonate and a heavy naphthenic oil. Makes it water proof and non-hardening.

What kind of oil can I put in there to soften the dried putty up?

I always wanted to know that.

Not sure, but my first guess would be mineral oil.

From the data sheet it appears to be just crushed stone & oil.

I used to have a problem with plumber's crack, but now that I have a few dollars to rub together I've moved up to plumber's cocaine.
