Plugged the 1inch impact up to this leg and it would run full speed for a second and then slow down to a crawl.

The Video was taken when we blew it out the second time, forgot to record on the first. The wall was white before we took any of this apart:willy_nil.

Do you have an oiler in line that coats your lines with oil??

Whenever I do stuff like that in my shop I always think about what a PITA it will be to clean up the mess so I would have had a hose running into a trash can or something.

How long did it take to clean up that mess.

Do you have drops at the outlets? Putting a tee in the line with a 6" drop and a ball valve at the bottom will keep the lines clear. all of the "stuff" falls into the drop and the ball valve is opened a couple of times a year to clear out the drop...

Put in the drops like I said and you will be good. The drops also keep that junk from running through your tools...
This a pic of one of my systems drops. All of my outlets are set up this way. I go around a couple of times a year and crack the ball valves for a couple of seconds. Keeps things cleaned out.

I like that your electrical appears to transition from EMT to a Galvanized Elbow meant for plumbing...

OP . . since you have lots of rust . . . . that means lots of WATER.

Recommend efforts to eliminate water . . . early . . . and often.

What is setup for compressor / dryer, etc on the front-end before air ever gets into the overall airline system ??

When we redid our shop air, we cut the old black pipe air lines with a sawzall . You could not put a pencil through 1/2 pipe.

Those galvanized elbows are sold for electrical work. They have a thinner wall thickness than elbows for fluids. Some are formed out of sheet metal with a seam.

The results of the blowdown are exactly what happens with black iron pipe used for air. Why is this a good idea again?

Because black pipe is one of the best for cooling the air so the water will drop out. It’s also one of the most rugged piping systems available making it a common choice in the harsh industrial shop environment.

Problem most people have with the black pipe is that it was never installed correctly and they don’t maintain it properly. The compressor and piping system needs to be blown-down and drained of condensate daily.

Harsh shop? Are we swinging from the overhead air lines? Maybe on a warship, not in a shop.

Copper would have better heat transfer to cool air.

Why go thru all the upkeep instead of using copper. A bit more money but lasts a long time and still has good scrap value at the end.

Bits of junk are falling off the iron pipe all the time, and going into the air tools.

So, I gave you an answer regarding black pipe.

Would you like me to comment on your other :monkey_po ?

This thread reminds me of two (just two of many) things I love about GJ.

1 Post a pic and eagle eyes are all over it, and an amendment to Murphy's Law is enforced: If something is wrong, someone will spot it!

2 Air lines... material, routing, termination, size, couplers... ANYTHING concerning air lines can not be discussed without an argument breaking out.

I love this place!
