I have a chance at a Ben Pearson NDL7 lift that is dissembled. It's ALI sticker shows certified for 1981. The owner who took it apart said that it needs a $100 part to work (he does not know what it needs), but he bought it never seeing it in operation. It appears to be in good shape for its age, and the cylinders do not appear to be leaking.

I have powered it on an the motor runs but have not added fluid to see if the pump is working.

There are all kinds of used China lifts on craigslist for 700-1800. New ones for slightly more.

How much would you pay not knowing what it is going to take to get it up and running?

Thanks
Robert

Scrap price for steel weight. If it works then you've scored. If not then your out the time spent messing with it.

I can’t see a lift from 1981 being a deal. Hydraulic seals are likely dried out, power unit is 38 years old, etc. Plan for rebuilding everything, then ask if it’s worth messing with. Lifts taken out of production shops are usually only taken out of service when they are worn out, no reason to remove something that is serviceable.

I would rather nut up and buy new when my life depends on it holding up the load. My free time is valuable enough to spend the money for decent equipment that I can use right away. If I were retired and had all the time in the world it might be a different story.

I got this Ben Pearson from 1985 for $1000 last month.

Still works great and not dried out seals. Its sturdier than any other lift Ive seen other than maybe a Mohawk.

Snag that lift!!!! they still sell parts to fix it if its broke. But mine wasnt!
