going to look at this full toolbox in a few hours, owner was a dealership mechanic and body man for 40 years, seems to be a good mix of snap on, proto, Mac, along with some craftsman gearwrench and other foreign stuff
what would GJ pay? plan would be to sell stuff I don't need to break even at the least

I'd say the box is between $350 to $500 for the right person. As for tools without seeing, hard to say. If she is full with real good stuff and you don't plan on reselling for a profit. There could be a $1,000 there, then again maybe not.

Don't listen to fury9, those are worthless. If you buy that tool box, send me the hammers and dollies, along with the Craftsman air tools and I will properly dispose of them for you...:lol_hitti

Can't tell how much **** is in there but if it were me, I wouldn't pay more than $3-500 and probably closer to the lower end. I am a tightwad though...

Mechanic or body man what was him primary job, a body mans box is worth alot less than a mechanics box, Like 75% less

That's a pretty arbitrary figure. I understand boxes can get a lot of dust and the like being in a body shop, but 75% less is laughable. Just about anything can be cleaned. ;) And they look like friction slide boxes, which would make cleaning them fairly easy.

If those boxes are in decent shape, I'd say you're looking at a value of 400-500 for the boxes themselves. It's really hard to price a toolbox full of tools. Most people show you a few drawers of wrenches and sockets scattered all over and price the whole thing like it just came from the tool truck.

If you get everything for around $500, again, assuming the boxes are decent and there's a fair amount of decent tools, that's not bad. If you think you could sell all the tools for what you're paying for the whole deal, it's definitely worth it.

Got it bought, ended up on the high end of what I was willing to pay, went in half with my dad. Pics to follow once I get things sorted and cleaned up.

Thanks for all the input guys!

What did you end up paying for it? What all did it contain?

The boxes are nice older 33" wide friction boxes. Bottom is a heavy built MB920, top is a MB910 w/ the optional 3drawer set to replace the standard large middle drawer.

Box value is going to depend heavily on condition. The standard body shop is not kind to a box at all. Expect probably $20-$400 MAYBE for the box itself. Again really hard to tell condition from pics. Asking the value of a box and contents then only showing 2 out of 23 drawers is just a game of schrodinger's cat. Could be junk, could be a gold mine, don't know till you open it.

Is that charred piece of wood at the front of the hammer drawer a lead paddle? There's some desirable hammers in there...

....not so sure about the claw hammer though ;)

Those dollies should clean up ok, ditto on the body hammers.

Ended up around $500 for the box w/contents and some other tools from the garage (MAC plastic welder, heat gun, etc)

Is there a way to identify maker? No marks on them that I can see, though they do need to be cleaned up.
