What's it worth?

Bought this box years ago thinking maybe it would be an investment. I never worked out of it, but I kept my home tools in it. I used to tote tools from the shop home to do side work in evenings and on weekends. As i got better situated I got most of what I needed to do the work that people brought me. Now that I'm retired, I have my set from work and this box and set. Is there a collectible market for this 'Belair' toolbox?

Limited edition boxes generally add little to nothing in value. It can be a plus if you find the exact guy who wants that box. In can also hurt if people find it bargaining point because they find the special edition a detractor. I would base your price off what you see similar boxes in your area go for. I varies to much from one place to another to give a real hammered down price. Seeing it is a 3 pieces set, maybe $2500. It's a 24" box, but with having a top a side box, it should look more appealing then all the classic 78 and matco 4S tech students are trying to dump. Putting it on EBay may be a better bet then CL to get a boarder audience.

Whats it worth? The ONLY answer is -It is worth as much as the buyer is willing to give at that moment. The world is not like Walmart with a set price on every item. Value is determined on each occasion and is never the same. What is an old car worth if some woman gives it to you for free? What is it worth if you sell it for $1500? What is it worth if your buyer sells it for $6300?
Value is determined each time by how much the buyer will give and how little the seller will offer.
Sorry, but asking the internet to set the value is not going to work

You will have to target the Louis Chevrolet followers.. The Henry Ford or Dodge Brothers groups had best not show up at work with that box... That is a nice box, and would look even better with a 57 Bel-Air convertible sitting in front of it.. Chevy fans can use a tool box anyway; so why not buy that one.. Hope it goes to a good home.. Sure You want to sell it?? I also agree with Dan on the price..

This is probably my favorite collector's box, due to the trim and color.

A CL ad here locally has been posted in Denver off and on for about a year. He's asking 5,000.

Another thing to do to get a guide (and only that) is to see what it would trade in today at a Snap On dealer if you were to buy another box. That may help you factor into what you want to ask for it.

Nothing to really add other than that is a very nice looking box. Good luck with your sale!

Well, it looks like you've tried to sell it multiple times on ebay for 6500 with no takers....Someone else tried to sell theirs for 4k with no takers....I'd check what trade in with your local dealer is and sell it for that.

It's basically unused and mint so I think it'd be certainly worth more than the run of a mill Snap-On box in that configuration and size. I think the styling is a definite plus.

and that's the problem. The older generation that kind of likes that style already owns a large box or doesn't see the value in buying an expensive box. The young guys don't like it and they are the guys with money looking to spend.

Paint that sucker a fluorescent color, slap some monster stickers on it and a fool and his money......

Bobcatdan nailed it. If I was in the market for a box like that, I wouldn't even consider that one just because it's a limited edition one in that color and with the Chevy motif. It's a super-nice box, don't get me wrong. It's just that buying the special edition ones might drive the price up for a few people who really like that design, but it will turn off way more people than it turns on.

Limited ed boxes like that come up in my area occasionally and they never seem to sell. They just pop up over and over and over through the course of a year.

I don't know, maybe you'll get a quick 3k if you take payments on it.

Not knowing what you paid, but with other boxes that come off the truck, they are worth half of what you pay for them when reselling. Then you have a "box specific" meaning that you have a box that is specific to a certain car, or anniversary box, but being specific to a few years of a certain car (Tri-Five or more specifically a '57 Chevy) there will only be a few select people looking for one. Then also consider the color being turquoise, it further narrows things down, so in essence, you box may be worth less than half of what you paid for it.
