If it came from auto body I would think for sticking in a hole and then activating and then pulling something to fix it. Maybe a door lock cylinder hole or something like that?

How strong is the pressure holding the prong up? Would it dent the inside of a pipe?

That is what I initially thought, some type of internal ID clamp. But I can't find much evidence to support that idea. Or it could be some part of a larger assembly.

OP are there any numbers, stamps or the like anywhere on the unit?
