What's my box worth?

I have my Grandfather's 70's (I think) KR-557C and KR-537C combo. It's in pretty good condition. All drawers open and close without any problems. Both original keys still with it. Any idea on what it's worth?

It's really only worth what somebody is going to pay for it. Seems like a smart-*** answer, but that's the truth.

Go ahead and throw some pictures up for everyone though. Sometimes one person's description/evaluation of an object differs greatly from what the masses perceive the condition to be.

I would definitely recommend getting some good pictures of the box up here then & those with much more knowledge about this type of stuff can chime in as necessary. Welcome to the forum.

I'll give you 1 data point. I bought a KR-537-? a few years ago off of Craigslist for $275. It's in good condition, but was missing the whole lock assy. I made one myself instead of buying a replacement from S/O.

Currently, there's "Rick Mears" edition KR-537 box on the local C/L for $225 for several weeks now. Looks like it's not moving at that price.

I'm looking for a KR-557 to put under my KR-537, but they don't show up around here.

Depending on the market in your area I seem to see these boxes going for $500 to $1000 for the set
Frankly that may seem low but it is what it is. For me it would be better value to keep them than the money they are worth

Someone locally has had that bottom on CL for $400 with no bites however it's dosent look as nice as yours

I would give $500 in a heartbeat for that one and bolt it to the one I already have and bake it like a bigger double bay box

This is your grandfathers way of telling you to get mechanically inclined.

Start with small projects and progress from there, like we all did. You can get on GJ to get advice or help when needed.

I am sure he would be looking down on you and smiling if you did.

I am with everyone else, if I saw it for $500 I would bite.

A good way to pratice mechanics is get a small engine from a lawn mower and take it apart and get it running again because lawn more engines are more similar to car engines then you might think.

If I had the OP's set, I'd advertise it at $750 and see what happens. Easily worth $500, probably $600.
