What's Next: 3/8 any versus 1/2 deep sockets

Alternator bolts on a Yaris, short 14mm plus 1" extension doesn't reach, deep 14mm is too long to fit. Had to cut down a deep to fit, a mid-length would've been perfect.

I never thought I would hear about anyone having that problem with that lower bolt on the Yaris alternator.
My SO mid- length bolt was still too long.
I bought a Kobalt 14mm shallow socket and it wasn't long enough.
The ratchet head still hits the water pump pulley.
My 2 solutions so far are: 1. put a washer under the bolt, 2. put a washer between the ratchet and socket. ( in each I have to use the Kobalt socket which is about 1/8 " longer (deeper).
Ultimately, I may have to resort, as you did, to cutting down a deep socket.
What brand of socket did you cut down.
