I was busy yesterday when the Mac guy stopped by, he had a new generic scanner that shows live data & clears most maint. lights on domestic, euro, & Asian cars. I think he said it was around $200 plus free updates. Do you guys have any more info on it? Was it the CReader 7?

I'm not actually sure that it does that or not, I work at a dealer so mostly deal with subaru's so I've never tried to see if it clears the maint. lights.

That sounds pretty good for the price!

I'd like to know more about it.

I guess the creader 7 is out....... not that I've been checking but I wonder if anyone on garage journal has picked one up yet and tell us about it......... I know the creader 6 is a pretty good little scanner / code puller been thinking about getting one but now I got to wait and see if I can find a reliable review on the new one

I asked the Mac guy today about the creader 7, I told him in a few weeks I'd like to get one. Well my boss decided to buy it for the shop the same day, so I'll let you guys know about. It clears maint lights (it tells you the % left on the oil change too) & is a generic code reader, no ABS though. He said it was $200 which seems pretty good.

I've been using this scanner for over a month now, its ok for generic data. I'm not too happy about its maint light clearing functions. I tried it on M/Bs, nissans, Hondas, fords, & others, it tells me only in manual mode, which I can get from alldata. It did work on a BMW & Volvo though.

Some vehicles you can't reset with any scanner. Not even the factory dealer ones. Nissan is an example. You can only reset them manually, which is brain dead simple.

Maybe with factory training on a brand of cars, I work at an indy shop so I see a lot of different makes.

I don't think I've ever worked on a car that required a scan tool to reset a maintenance light but I don't really ever work on euro brands. I wouldn't call it factory training either, most owners manuals will tell you how to do it and if they don't a quick Google search will.

The scan tool is supposed to save you time when resetting those lights, and it does on the ones it works on. I've spent 15-20 minutes trying to reset some of these lights. Not all of them are easy.
I was trying to reset it on a new ford, it wasn't in the maint. section on the display so I had to go through the stupid owner's manual, which does't have anything about the maint. light in the index. Its a fricken wild goose chase, like I said the scanner is supposed to save time. 1 out of 5 cars it works on, other then that you need a good memory to remember on each car which buttons to hit in sequence to shut it off.

I know Audi has a couple that you have to use a scanner or take to dealer to reset. But most usually let you do it manually. Scanner does help on a few. If nothing else it will tell you how to do it manually. Not always though.
