Someone local to me is trying to sell a "new" older Snap On tool box and roll-away. It was on eBay last week for $1100 and didn't sell. It's been on craigslist for about a month for the same amount.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260562066502

I've reached out to the guy with some introductory questions but he hasn't responded.

In case I do connect with this guy and the box turns out to be as nice as he says, what's it really worth?

I've got a couple Craftsman ball bearing boxes that are full. I need some room for expansion. I kind of like this older box with more shorter drawers versus fewer taller drawers that seem to be more popular today.

but this one has homeowner written all over it.

Brand new??

I'd say $750 - 1000 given it's condition. However boxes seem to go much cheaper back east then here on the west coast.

Here in OR that box would sell in a heartbeat at his asking price.

I'd like to rent a semi and swing thru the NE picking up these killer deals and sell them here in the PNW.

The same tool box was for sale on my local Craigs list for $1000 for several weeks. They lowered the price to $900 and it was gone in about a week. I don't know what the actual selling price was.

I have the same set so I was interested in what it is worth. I probably wouldn't take $900 for mine.

I didn't think it was a terrible price for a NOS box, but I'm not a big fan of that particular box, they're nice I like the one's with the handles (should have bought those NOS MAC's, kicking myself).

I'd say as a Mickey said for a NOS box thats in new/mint shape thats a pretty decent price. Thats a nice heavy built setup for the money and is certain to last a few years. Offer em $800 and see what happens.

ive seen used ones going for $4-500 i'd offer $700 and work from there, if it's listed long enough he might take the cash.
looks like an 81 date code, and the box does look new.......

Whoa. Thanks for the quick replies.

Now I wish the guy would just respond to me so I could go have a look at it. I'm not hugely motivated to buy anything right now, but who knows. I'd take a short stack of Benjamins just in case we can reach an agreement.

Kurt, good info on last year's craigslist listing. This guy probably bought it and is trying to flip it for a profit. Nothing wrong with that. But it's good to know there's some wiggle room for him.

I could put that on the truck and get at least 900 bucks for being new. maybe more if someone really liked the older looking boxes. I prefer this style of box with all the little drawers on one side. I regret selling my old top box like that.

i have a newer model of that top box, the 90th anv harley davidson boxes.
it doesnt have the little door that covers the narrow drawers, but has a full width drop front.. and i bought a matching 3 drawer center for mine.
i hate them lil drawers, i'd rather have full width drawers

i try to keep all my boxes organized the same way, (work, service truck and home), that way i know exactly what drawer certain tools are in. with so much stuff crammed in that top box, i had to move tools around so much to get organized, i end up opening 2 or 3 drawers before i find what i'm looking for :willy_nil
no wonder i cant get anything done

yeah having to search is a pain but it sure is nice when you can narrow down what goes in each drawer sometimes. but I would also like one of the new big epiq boxes. but I drive the damn truck so i consider it my toolbox...... lol

i hate knowing i have something, and cant find it.

recent ly i got all my garage/ home tools back into my garage, after i moved out of a rented shop space. condensed tools in 4 sets of boxes, into 2 sets. i looked for an hour for a damn 3/8" ratchet last week, and never did find it, or any of my ratchets. i had stuck them in one of those narrow side drawers, and didnt think to look there.

maybe it's alzhimers :headscrat

In my opinion, that box is worth every penny of the $1100 starting bid, and the BIN price of $1300 is not too out of line either. They don't make quality boxes like that no more.

As a toolbox it's probably worth $500 +/-. Since it's "new" ain't no telling what a collector would pay.........

Yeah you're gonna hear all kinds of estimates on here of what that box is worth. It depends on the person's wow factor when first looking at it. Now if that were a brand new KR1000, you'd hear me say some insane numbers. :D

For both boxes? I'd pay pretty close to what he's asking in a heartbeat. I've got that same top box and it's about 30 years old...Still works great. And it's overflowing with tools, so it's not being used "lightly" either.

I have the same set up for sale in my showroom in very good shape for $900 and would take $700. If its new as advertised, the $1,100 is not to far out of line if you like the box. Offer $800 or so and see what happens.

Merk, I picked up a KR1000 yesterday and while it is used, it still works great. I have to agree with you they were on of SO's finest.

Looks like it`s not worth the $1100 since bidding ended with no bids.Based on what a willing buyer & seller will accept. For someone who really liked the lay out it would be a good deal in the $700-$800 range. I see the same seller has a "new" KRL722 priced at $3500 too.

Anyone got a pic of a KR1000?

Google "KR1000 Snap On" and click on Images.

Hmmm. I think THAT'S a box I could live with for a long time. As I said in my first post I like the slim drawers.

I reached out to the Craigslist seller again. Still waiting on a response. Grrrr.

$1100 seems fair as long as it is mint, not just unused. I have seen some serious wear on items that have never been used and a tool box is pretty big to never bump into for the last 30 years.
