What's this chest worth?

I picked up the HF 44", so I am looking to get rid of my craftsman. It's about 15 years old. I don't see a model like it for sale anymore or online. Basically a 41" chest with a plastic piece on top with little storage areas all around it. Even beer holder indents. The top opens up and has a little more storage under it. Do you guys think $300 is too much? It appears only the larger upper drawer is ball bearing, but the lower drawers open and close fine.

It's a little dusty, but no scratches and I always had mats in the drawers.

I think you'll have a tough time getting $300. I'd probably start at $250 and hope for $150-200.

that is fine too. Just no idea where to start since it seems to be a one-off craftsman design. Can't remember the cost new. Thought it was around $600ish.

It's used, would not pay more than a $100 for it. Start pushing the $200+ range and I would rather just spend my money at HF for a box.

I think I will list locally @ $250 and take 150-200 as said above. $100 seems like a steal compared to whats for sale on CL locally.

I think that's a good plan. I would say $150-200 as well. List for $300 and put OBO, you'll get some emails.

Just because you see chests listed at a higher price doesn't mean they are moving for that price. Hell I could list my HF 5-drawer for $800 on CL, doesn't mean anyone would take me serious.

I think $300 OBO is a fair starting price.

You have the keys and it's in overall good condition. Plus, it's a workstation, which are a bit harder to find than the normal tool boxes.

Offer to help load, anything you can do to sweeten the deal. Include cheapo drawer mats. Even by throwing in a few RP wrenches can make or break a deal. Mention everything positive about it.

Good luck.

I wouldn't sell that for less than $300. Might bring a sweet trade if u need anything? top+bottom of that brings $600 out here in that shape. ask $350 take $300. Top notch c/s and deep drawer for blow molded cases---2 things hf does not. Some buyers care about those 2 things, some don't.

Some people just need a box and Chi-town is big--time is money. @$150-200 that would not last 60 seconds out here...fwiw

$100-200 in chicago lol

I'd list it up at $300. In my area, I don't think you'd have any trouble getting at least $200 out of it.

Agreed, you could get $300 where I am. Might not be the day you list but that's a nice box. Take pics showing the condition of the box and mention you had liners in them, etc and I bet $250 wouldn't be too difficult to get.

Some casual DIYers see the name 'Craftsman' and assume it's top-shelf. Here at GJ we know it's somewhat more complicated than that.

used HF 42"ers go for $200 around here in Oregon/Washington area, so I would say yours is worth about the same- it has the long top drawer and its black! Actually, a couple of months ago, a guy was selling a like new, with keys, 3 month old HF 42" here. It stayed on cl for a few weeks- not sure if he ever sold it. A couple years ago, that would have been gone in an hour or two!

Once it's gone, it's gone.

Looking at the pics of your garage/shop, you have alot of workbench area. Have you considered (taking the top off if need be) mounting it under one of your benches and setting it up as fastener storage ?

I've thought about it, but I decided to get some racks/bins instead to store my fasteners in.

:+1: If it is anything like their 26" project center, it is a real piece of junk. You would be competing with the husky box with wood top, which I would wager is better built.
