Hey guys, first post.

Just moved into a house with a 4 car garage (2 car width, 2 deep), and I'm looking to get an air compressor for car work and HVLP paining.

I would like to purchase a used 80 gallon vertical compressor and prefer to purchase used as the prices are a lot more appealing.

Saw this one on craigslist, and wanted to get your opinion on what would be a fair price.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That auction ends tomorrow, I doubt that they will let you hear it run on auction day.

It looks good, worth at least double what it is at now ($360) if it runs. It probably does, but that is the chance you take with an auction.

Nice thing about it is that there probably are not too many garage type people looking at the auction of a printing company so their may not be many other bidders. Although, you just let the cat out of the bag on the Garage journal didn't ya?

Congrats on winning the auction. Those are really nice compressors. I'm in the middle of rebuilding one of those pumps, and I am pretty impressed with the quality of the construction.

I really like the speedairs, my son has one and it's nice and quiet, mine sounds like a Harley. I hired a delivery truck, the type that has a platform that drops straight down from the truck box to road height. As I recall mine weighs 470 lbs so I wasn't going to kill myself trying to get it into my truck somehow. I don't remember how much I paid for the delivery but it wasn't too bad, maybe $80? It's on a pallet so sliding it wasn't too bad on a slick floor, to really get it where I wanted I tipped it up and put some 1/2" dowel under it so it would roll on it.

Transport on the pallet, upright, with at least two ratchet straps, one fore/aft and one side to side, real tight. good straps, 2 in wide 10,000 lb straps from Home Depot or Northern work well, about $15 each strap.

imo you could lean it over onto the back of a pickup, get a bud to lift it up and in. I moved mine like that, no problem. Put it outside your garage with a little roof over it to keep the noise down.

Possibly. I may be in the area early tomorrow

Auction states single stage, but the compressor detail pic did show 2 stage.

Whats it worth???

go by the pic of the tag that is shown with the auction detail; many people have no clue what they have or what the difference is, between a single and a 2 stage compressor,,,,

I bought a used 80 gallon Speedaire 2 stage. The guy really wanted to get rid of it so he offered to deliver it. He layed it down in the back of a large SUV (Yukon) believe it or not (layed the back seats down). Worked OK except that he didn't drain the oil and it leaked a bit. Felt sorry for him but it was a pretty foolish to not drain it.
