Hot cut hardy.
if you heat the middle of a steel rod up to cherry red, hold it over the wedge on your vise and then hit the top side of the rod with a hammer, the rod will be cut in half.

Of course, on a vise that small, steel rod vs wire should be a consideration.

I don’t disagree with that. But find it strangely odd on its positioning and support. I don’t think I’d be smacking on it too damn hard.

Could be a swivelling end on something like a portapower.

To be a hardy it would have to be made of tempered steel.
