I picked this up at a yard sale for $5. Don't know what I'm going to use it for just yet. I can tell you that a piece of Stater brothers toilet paper is .003 thick.

The tool was made in Japan. I assume this means that it's of decient quality?Looks like Mitutoyo? What are the 2 other pieces? One looks kinda like a wrench and the other has "v"'s in it and was made in Los Angelas.

Well the big one is a C-clamp, the analog gauge on it you see there is to measure the clamping force. The other thing with a V in it is an old native Los Angelean arrowhead, looks to be in OK shape. And finally, that last 'kinda like a wrench' thing is actually a divining rod used to locate sarcasm in garage forums, it works BTW.

You did half decent for five bucks, not great.

The "C-Clamp" is a micrometer measuring in .001". Not sure on the rest but pretty sure its not an arrowhead or divining rod! ;)

The wrench is for calibrating your micrometer. Back the handle all the way off and you'll see where the spanner fits (only do this if you know what you're doing!). I should know what that little gauge is, but I don't...

Mitutoyo is good stuff. I usually don't buy precision stuff used, but for 5 bucks it's definitely worth a shot.

LOL!!
The wrench is a calibrating tool and it appears to be Starrett (LSS), the other thing in likely a centre finder

decent - - - (adjective) - Appropriate; fitting: "they would meet again after a decent interval". SYNONYMS: Respectable, proper, modest

Los Angeles - - - coastal area was first settled by the Tongva (or Gabrieleños) and Chumash Native American tribes thousands of years ago. Currently largest city in California.

There's this "new" tool on internet called Search with several choices like Google, Bing, etc. Drop in the brand "Mitutoyo" and you get quite useful information about the older micrometer you have there. :D

By the way for $5 . . . you scored on that one!! ;)

Arrow point thing is called a "fish". Very useful tool around a lathe. Like has been said use it to grind tool bits for threading operations on the lathe. Use it as a small square or center finder. Good buy for $5.
